Borderlands 3 PlayStation Crossplay Finally Being Added This Spring

Gearbox has confirmed that Borderlands 3 PlayStation crossplay is finally being added, allowing PS4 and PS5 players to finally play with those on PC and Xbox platforms. The announcement was made over in PAX East, and it represents a significant change in Sony overall, as the PlayStation parent company is notable for not allowing crossplay for most of their multiplayer games.

Borderlands 3 PlayStation crossplay is said to be arriving sometime this Spring. With that update, players on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One, Xbox Series, and Stadia will be able to play together regardless of their platform, something that was impossible when the game first launched in 2019.

It’s still unknown what made Sony change their mind on the crossplay situation. It was revealed during the height of the Epic Games vs. Apple saga that Sony requires a royalty fee from developers looking to add crossplay functionality to their game. Whether Gearbox finally caved or another deal was worked instead, we may never know; that said, it’s good news all around that the entire playerbase will be able to play with each other come Spring.

Stay tuned here at MP1st for the patch notes of this coming crossplay update once it launches. In case you missed it, Gearbox also announced a new Tales from the Borderlands game during PAX East, and you can read the details here.
