First-time esports team captain has high hopes for eRimau at 2021 SEA Games

eRimau, Malaysia’s football esports team that will be competing in multiplayer football simulator Fifa Online 4 at the 2021 SEA Games, is aiming high with a strong bond among the members, says the captain of the newly-formed team.

First-time captain Muhammad Luqman Haziq Hajiman (LuqmanHzq) admits it will be a new experience for him to lead a team in a major tournament, but is confident they can reach their full potential.

“It is an interesting experience since I usually play solo and have never led a team let alone a national squad like eRimau.

“But as an experienced player, I know how to lead and guide the others so that they can fulfil their potential.

“So far we have built a very solid team chemistry and this will help us to perform our best in the tournament,” he shares.

Luqman shares that his first collaboration with the other three teammates – namely Muhammad Asyraf Kamal (AK31), Gan Mun Kiat (RippedJeannn), and Wan Muhammad Hakimm Wan Narizan (P3rlisTeamJr) – is off to a good start.

“I only knew them recently since we have never met before. I have heard of their achievements and after training with them, I believe that each member can contribute something unique to help us grow as a team,” he says.

The team has undergone centralised training on top of their usual training routine in preparation for their two-day Fifa Online 4 competition event, which will be held on May 14 and 15, at the SEA Games in Hanoi.

“Other than our daily practice, we also went through a one-week bootcamp to polish our skills and to increase our chemistry as a team.

“We believe that with the amount of practice that we have done we can prove to be one of the favourites to win a medal in the tournament,” says Luqman.

The team had earlier announced their goal to at least bring back a bronze medal in their debut.

When asked about the challenge of having to depend on the Thailand server to train for Fifa Online 4 as there is no server in Malaysia, Luqman says that the team has found ways to adapt.

“It is definitely a huge challenge since good connection is part of the requirement for us players to perform to our best.

“We try to adapt to the current situation by practising a lot and we hope that with better connection at the event, our performance will be better,” he shares.

Luqman has been a major player in the local efootball scene since 2017 after being the first Malaysian to join the Fifa Ultimate Team championship. He also emerged as the champion for the Fifa Global Series East Qualifier 3 last year, earning him a spot in the Fifa Global Series ranking.

On his personal thoughts about making it to the SEA Games, he admits it’s a childhood dream to represent Malaysia in the prestigious tournament.

Luqman adds that he is proud to be part of the growth of efootball in Malaysia.

“I never dreamt of coming this far and everyday I thank God for the opportunity to go through this journey.

“This SEA Games would definitely be the cherry on the cake for my career and I hope to make the best out of it.”

The Hanoi SEA Games 2021 will take place from May 12 to 23, 2022.
