Germantown boy shot in leg at home while playing video games

PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — A 7-year-old boy is recovering in the hospital after being shot while in his home on Saturday night. A 17-year-old boy is in police custody, though it is not clear how, or even if, he is connected to the incident.

According to police, several shots were fired into a home on the 200 block of Collom Street in East Germantown around 9:45 p.m. They say the boy, who was in a second floor bedroom playing a video game, was struck once in the right leg.

The boy is in stable condition at a nearby hospital and is expected to make a physical recovery.

Police say no one in the home saw the person outside who fired the gun. Investigators say four spent shell casings found outside appear to correspond to the four holes found on the exterior of the house.

Police say they took into custody a 17-year-old with a loaded gun. Police have not said if he is connected to the shooting.

The boy’s mother was also in the home at the time he was shot. Police say they do not believe the boy or his mother were targets.
