Ishin! New Gameplay Shows Mini-Games, Includes Baka Mitai Karaoke

New gameplay footage of Sega’s upcoming Like A Dragon: Ishin! has appeared, as Chinese language media outlets get to sample the game in Simplified Chinese.

The new gameplay is on a different build seen from TGS 2022, around the time when the game was first announced.

Like A Dragon: Ishin! as it’s known in English is a remake of the PS3 game, which never got released in English (the Japanese title has the “Kiwami” suffix like all Yakuza/Like A Dragon remakes).

A9VG in particular has posted a 45-minute gameplay video of Like A Dragon: Ishin! featuring mostly side content, from what we can gather. Here, we see protagonist Sakamoto Ryoma indulge in various side activities including traditional Japanese dancing and karaoke.

As for karaoke, the Ishin remake is getting one new song where Ryoma sings in the form of fan favourite Baka Mitai, otherwise known as the “Dame Da Ne Song”. The heartfelt ballad that somehow got elevated into memehood is seen in full, with a more traditional arrangement.

The gameplay video also ends with what seems to be a game of rock paper scissors, where the loser… strips?

The video also reveals a full-fledged photo mode is included. The game pauses and allows for filters and character poses. There’s more footage of the action-based combat, which features style-switching between using fists, the katana, the gun, and the katana-and-gun together.

Like A Dragon: Ishin! tells the story of Ryoma during the Bakumatsu period, based on true events. But the cast of the story is played by characters (and their respective voice actors) from the Like A Dragon series. Ryoma happens to share the likeness and voice of series mainstay Kazuma Kiryu, for example.

For this remake, a few of the main characters are now played by newer Like A Dragon characters. The three main bosses in Yakuza 0, as well as some characters from Yakuza: Like A Dragon are now in the main cast.

Like A Dragon: Ishin! is the first game in the series to utilise Unreal Engine, and the first release in English to adopt the Like A Dragon name as the series name.

Like A Dragon: Ishin! will be out on PS4, PS5, PC, Xbox One and Xbox Series X|S.
