Kashihara City Plans Hard-Hitting Street Fighter Video Game Crossover

Soon, visitors to Nara Prefecture’s Kashihara City will get to see the likes of Ryu, Chun-Li, and other Street Fighter heroes on display. The city is in talks with Capcom to partner with the popular video game franchise to drum up tourism with a collaborative campaign—and as Kashihara is the hometown of Capcom founder Kenzo Tsujimoto, it’s a no-brainer.

Tadahiko Kameda, the mayor of Kashihara, met with Capcom producer Shuhei Matsumoto to sign the agreement at Kashihara City Hall on August 30. Mayor Kameda said he appreciated the opportunity to collaborate, and looks forward to working together in “various areas” with the company.

So far, plans are afoot to include series characters in posters for World Heritage sites, as well as creating character monuments. We may also see decorative manhole covers and collaborations with facilities around town.
