McNeese Baseball Readies For Midweek Clash With ULM

LAKE CHARLES- Six days after meeting in Monroe, ULM is set to return the favor and square off with McNeese (23-17) Tuesday night at Joe Miller Ballpark. First pitch is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Series History:

McNeese and ULM are meeting for the 176th time, McNeese leads the overall series 89-85-1. The two programs met last Wednesday in Monroe with ULM pulling out a 4-3 victory in 10 innings. 

Last Time Out:

Winners of seven of their last eight, McNeese swept preseason conference favorite Southeastern over the weekend after splitting midweek games against Sam Houston and ULM. Kade Morris hit a walk-off grand slam in Friday night’s contest to be followed by Brad Burckel hitting a walk-off homer of his own in Saturday night’s game two. McNeese finished the Lions off with an 8-4 victory that included a four-run fourth inning and two timely homers by Reid Bourque and Morris.

About McNeese:

Brad Burckel (.364 – 1st in SLC), Payton Harden (.356 – 4th in SLC), and Braden Duhon (.339 – 6th in SLC) are the Cowboys leading hitters. Tied for second-most in the conference, Kade Morris paces the club with eight home runs, and Julian Gonzales’ 17 extra-base hits are also a club high. 

Payton Harden is tied for the highest hit total in the SLC with 55, Harden has posted 21 multi-hit games in 40 starts. McNeese ranks second in the SLC in batting average (.283), hits (387), doubles (71), total bases (594), and slugging % (.435). 

On the mound, the Pokes carry the lowest ERA (3.94) and have fanned a league-high 364 batters.

Andrew Sheridan has made 13 appearances including two starts, Sheridan sports a 2.70 ERA across 26.2 innings with 16 punchouts. 

On The Run:

The Cowboys have stolen the eighth-most bases in the nation with 88. Payton Harden (17), Julian Gonzales (15), Reid Bourque (14), and Brad Burckel (13) make up four of the top six stolen base leaders in the Southland Conference with Harden leading. 

The Pokes have tripled 20 times this season which is tied with no. 1 Tennessee for the second-highest total in the country. 

Closing Time:

Cameron Foster’s 10 saves are tied for the fourth-most in College Baseball. He’s 3-1 with a 1.14 ERA and 54 strikeouts in 39.1 innings. Foster was named Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week after he was hitless in four appearances (6.0 innings) with two saves and a win while allowing no hits, walks, or earned runs, while striking out seven.

Video Game Numbers:

Out of the bullpen, transfer RHP Tyler Stone has fanned 36 batters over 18.1 innings while holding opposing batters to a .131 batting average. 

About ULM:

ULM lost two of three over the weekend to App. State after last week’s extra-inning contest between the Cowboys and Warhawks in Monroe. Hitting .258 collectively – eighth highest in the Sun Belt, Ryan Cupit (.336), Mason Hold (.320), and Colby Deaville (.310) are the Warhawk’s leading hitters. Holt leads the club with nine homers and 24 runs driven in.
