Modern Warfare 2 premium DLC will reportedly include campaign content next year

Activision is reportedly planning to release premium campaign content for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2.

That’s according to Bloomberg reporter Jason Schreier, who expects an expansion for the upcoming game to be released in 2023 instead of a new series entry.

In a post on Twitter, Schreier reiterated Bloomberg’s previous claim that Activision has chosen to hold back 2023’s Call of Duty release, essentially skipping a year for the first time in two decades.

“Next year they’ll be selling new stuff for MW2, an expansion or something like that (not sure exactly what it’ll look like but it’ll have campaign stuff too),” he said. “No actual new COD until 2024 as I reported earlier this year.”

Schreier’s claims back up those made recently by Call of Duty leaker TheGhostOfHope.

“Campaign DLC to be released in late 2023 bundled with [the] map pack I leaked previously,” he tweeted over the weekend.

The leaker previously claimed that a ‘greatest hits’ pack containing multiplayer maps from a variety of classic Call of Duty games is in the works, to celebrate the franchise’s 20th anniversary and to be released as Modern Warfare 2 DLC.

Activision stated in August that Call Of Duty will receive “new premium content” in 2023.

It was believed that this statement could refer to paid DLC, something that was once a staple of the franchise but has lessened in recent years. If the campaign DLC and map pack claims are accurate, these would fit the bill.

Call of Duty got rid of ‘Season Passes’ offering paid map packs in 2019, with the release of the first Modern Warfare reboot.

The Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 release date is October 28, but players who pre-order the digital version of the game will be granted early access to its campaign starting on October 20.
