PlayStation Store’s most downloaded games of 2022 have been revealed

Sony Interactive Entertainment has revealed the most downloaded PS4, PS5 and PlayStation VR games of 2022.

On Tuesday the company published separate top 20 charts for PS4 and PS5 in both the US/Canada and Europe.

It also released top ten charts for PlayStation VR titles and free-to-play games in each region.

PlayStation Plus Monthly Games – PS5 & PS4 – January 2023

The PS5 chart in the US/Canada was topped by Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, ahead of God of War Ragnarök, NBA 2K23, Elden Ring and Madden NFL 23.

FIFA 23 led the download chart in Europe, followed by Modern Warfare 2, God of War Ragnarök, Elden Ring and Grand Theft Auto 5.

Gran Turismo 7, the latest entry in Sony’s best-selling franchise of all-time, charted at No.9 in the US/Canada and at No.6 in Europe, while Horizon Forbidden West came in at No.8 in both regions.

Modern Warfare 2 also led PS4 downloads in the US/Canada, ahead of Grand Theft Auto 5, Minecraft, Elden Ring and NBA 2K23. God of War Ragnarök charted at No.9 and Horizon Forbidden West at No.13, but Gran Turismo 7 failed to make the top 20.

FIFA 23 was the No.1 PS4 game in Europe, followed by Grand Theft Auto 5, Modern Warfare 2, Minecraft and FIFA 22. God of War Ragnarök came in at No.15, Gran Turismo 7 at No.19, and Horizon Forbidden West at No.20.

Beat Saber was PlayStation VR’s most downloaded game for the fourth year in a row

On the PlayStation VR chart, Beat Saber, Job Simulator and Superhot VR took the top three spots in both the US/Canada and Europe, just as they did in 2021. Creed: Rise to Glory was at No.4 in both regions.

Fall Guys was the top free-to-play game in the US/Canada and Europe. Fortnite was at No.2 in the US/Canada and at No.3 in Europe, while Call of Duty: Warzone/Warzone 2.0 was at No.3 in the US/Canada and at No.2 in Europe.

On Monday Sony published a trailer highlighting the “most exciting games” coming to PlayStation consoles in 2023, “from innovative indies to cutting-edge blockbusters”.

And earlier today the platform holder released January’s PlayStation Plus Game Catalog and Classics titles. They include Back 4 Blood, Devil May Cry 5: Special Edition, Just Cause 4 Reloaded, Syphon Filter 3, Hot Shots Golf 2 and Star Wars Demolition.

Sony claimed this month that PS5 has sold over 30 million units since its November 2020 launch.

Speaking during the company’s CES showcase, SIE president Jim Ryan said December was PS5’s biggest sales month yet, and that increased availability means more consumers can now purchase the console following long-running supply issues.

Sony will launch PlayStation VR2 on February 22, 2023. Priced at $549.99 / €599.99 / £529.99, the PS5 virtual reality hardware includes the PS VR2 headset, PS VR2 Sense controllers and stereo headphones.
