Save Mart launches video game-focused rewards program

Gaming meets groceries with a new rewards program. The Save Mart Companies announced on Thursday it’s now letting customers earn rewards redeemable for video games.

Shoppers at the company’s banners, which include Save Mart, Lucky and FoodMaxx, will receive a $10 Gamer eReward for every $15 spent on specially marked items in a single transaction, with a limit of four rewards per household.

Save Mart’s Gamer Rewards Program is available at all of the approximately 200 supermarkets the California-based grocer operates. The program includes more than 300 individual products from participating brands including Frito-Lay, Pepsi, Gatorade, Coca-Cola, Hostess and Kraft Heinz.

Shoppers can redeem rewards for a variety of video game platforms from developers including Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo, Roblox and Apple, and at GameStop stores, according to the announcement. The Gamer Rewards Program is scheduled to end on Sept. 6, and shoppers can redeem rewards until Oct. 31.

Save Mart, which was bought by private equity firm Kingswood Capital Management in late March, is incentivizing customers to buy name brand products following its announcement in April that it planned to add hundreds of private label grocery items to its shelves.

Other loyalty programs and reward systems are popping up as grocers look to keep customers shopping during the rise in inflation. Earlier this year, for example, The Fresh Market launched its first ever loyalty program, Ultimate Loyalty Experience, which offers benefits such as exclusive savings, coupons and even free slices of cake during a member’s birthday month.
