The release date for Sonic Frontiers may have been announced earlier than planned, thanks to a Japanese TV commercial.
The game, which will be shown tonight as part of Gamescom‘s Opening Night Live show, will apparently release on November 8, 2022.
The commercial has reportedly been appearing on Japanese television for a while, but with no release date.
However, Twitter user @Tracked_TD noted that the trailer had been uploaded to YouTube, with a release date added. The video has since been changed to Private.
Promotional material for merchandise related to the game pointed to the release date being November 15, although this trailer appears to contradict that.
Back in December 2021, the PlayStation Network backend also listed a November 15, 2022 release date, which was initially spotted by PlayStation Game Size.
Sega management has continually maintained that there are no plans to delay Sonic Frontiers following mixed reception from fans and media.
Earlier this month, following a financial briefing, Sega Sammy senior executive vice president Koichi Fukazawa and executive vice president Makoto Takahashi answered questions on a number of topics.
One question asked whether Sega was considering postponing the release of Sonic Frontiers to improve it, following feedback from players and the press.
“We do not consider postponing the launch at this point,” Sega’s official English translation of the response reads.
Gamescom Opening Night Live host Geoff Keighley said earlier this month that “a world premiere new look and news about Sonic Frontiers” will be shown during the live show, which airs tonight.
Officially, Sonic Frontiers is slated to release in 2022 for Xbox Series X/S, Xbox One, PS5, PS4, Switch and PC, and Sega has said it’s targeting high review scores for the game.
However, the publisher has still to officially confirm the game’s exact release date. It is expected that the release date reveal was planned for tonight’s show.
