Texas man has Guinness World Record for largest video game collection

Breaking a world record is a huge milestone, but achieving it in your favorite hobby is a whole other accomplishment.

Antonio Romero Monteiro from Richmond, Texas holds the world record for the largest video game collection, according to the Guinness World Records, which awards similar titles to record breakers in different categories each year around the world.

The organization originally awarded Monteiro the record in December 2021 when he had a total of 20,139 video games. Since then, Monteiro has added about 4,000 new games to his collection.

Guinness World Records said Monteiro, whose collection spans more than 100 video game consoles, now owns a total 24,268 games, worth an estimated $2.1 million.

“Originally my collection focused on purchasing and repurchasing some of the games I played in my youth,” Monteiro told the organization, adding that he started at age 10 in 1987. “Slowly it expanded to include games I always wanted to play, but hadn’t had the opportunity to, and eventually expanded to completing collections for individual systems.”

In 2021, he was also recognized as having the largest collection of Xbox items, the largest collection of Sega items, the largest collection of Nintendo items and the largest collection of PlayStation items, GWR said.
