Not-E3 is over. It’s been a hot minute since a week’s worth of gaming news radiated with such chaotic energy. One moment, we’re celebrating that TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge is finally out, and the next, Neill Blomkamp is making some ridiculous Gran Turismo movie. Please, let’s have more chill next time.

Jokes aside, nearly every press conference was absolute fire. Microsoft’s massive Xbox & Bethesda Games Showcase gave release dates for highly-anticipated games like Overwatch 2 and Diablo 4, even though the extended show was pretty ho-hum. Capcom’s show had plenty of cool reveals too. Yet still no Resident Evil PS1 classics collection, much to my chagrin.

Right, no more honorable mentions. Let’s look at this week’s big headlines.

The Resident Evil 4 remake got another trailer, revealing several more reimagined locations and moments from the action-horror classic. There’s a much greater emphasis on darkness than in the original, with several key scenes taking place at night this time. Considering the Resident Evil 2 remake team is behind this, dialing up the spooky vibes should come as no surprise.

There’s no graceful way of saying this: Sonic wears a hedgehog suit. That right, that spiky blue trim is some outfit he wears. Apologies if you are only finding this out now. Curious minds can learn more here but know that eldritch sights are not meant for mortal eyes. Not even H.R. Giger’s paintings could prepare you for this.

No, I am not pulling your leg. Overwatch 2‘s multiplayer mode is coming this fall and will have seasonal updates, battle passes, and not a loot box in sight! Blizzard took a lot of flak for popularizing loot boxes within the AAA games space, so it’s understandable that the company is implementing an entirely new microtransaction system instead. Who knows if the proposed content roadmap will shake out as planned, but here’s hoping.

While Dragon’s Dogma isn’t the most well-known action RPG, it’s unquestionably an all-timer. Cult classics rarely get sequels, but thankfully, Capcom is moving ahead with Dragon’s Dogma 2. Right on the original’s 10th anniversary, no less. Sadly there wasn’t much substance with this reveal. Director Hideaki Itsuno came out and just said it’s in development. Good enough for me!

Square Enix went absolutely ham for Final Fantasy 7‘s 25th anniversary. First, we got Rebirth‘s reveal – the second part of Final Fantasy 7 Remake. Then the fan-favorite PSP spinoff Crisis Core is getting the remaster treatment, and it’s coming out this year! Part three of the remake trilogy is already in production too. It turns out Nomura isn’t dilly dally shilly-shallying around anymore.
