Many Marvel Studios and Disney may have lots of money to throw around, but in the end, the same is true for games. But Marvel looks very close to diving deep into the gaming pool. At the moment, there are four signed AAA titles and two more, which aren’t valid.
Marvel’s first family deserves a proper video game adaptation.
The closest game that comes to full release is Midnight Suns. Unfortunately, the Games for Firaxis have delayed it to the beginning of next year. While Spider-Man 2 and Wolverine are at least one year away from hitting stores. Finally there’s the untitled Marvel game directed by Sky Dance New Media, led by Amy Hennig, creator of The Uncharted and Soul Reaver. Interestingly this is the internet’s most interested person, partly because of a recent leak.
The Fantastic Four game, set to come out at the same time as the new live-action adaptation, will fetch a lot of sales from the market with less effort.
Mark Bernardin revealed in a Kevin Smith podcast that Skydance New Media is probably doing a Fantastic Four game. Both have declined to namedrop in general. To the point that one can get the answer right, he replied to that by saying that one already has gotten it correct. There is also the correct answer: the first AAA title by Skydance New Media is based on an ensemble cast who doesn’t have a video game adaptation. Of course, Smith and Bernardin could’ve also talked about the X-Men, The Inhumans and the Thunderbolts.
At the end of the day, it’s best to wait for September 9 for the following day. Disney announced that it planned to host a video game showcase. The main highlight is the highly-hyped game by Skydance New Media. LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga is also coming at the event following a successful debut, which indicates a lot more content. Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora will be at the show, with an additional delay. Finally we could see the Iron Man and Black Panther games from EA’s long-rumored success.
The Marvel game of Skydance would likely be F4 from GamingLeaks and Raiders.
It’s odd that the Disney and Marvel Games Showcase will not show a new Star Wars game out of Lego Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga, but we hope that it’s not the case. Even if we don’t see Hennig’s Star Wars project, we would definitely love to know more about Star Wars Jedi: Survivor.
The movie Fantastic Four was released on August 18th. According to Kevin Feige, Marvel skipping the origins of the titular team and will go straight for potentially cataclysmic events that will kick off Phase 6 of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The upcoming Fantastic Four live-action adaptation does not have a director because Jon Watts stopped from launching earlier this year.
