Tinykin Will Scratch Your Pikmin Itch on PS5, PS4

Pikmin’s pretty good, isn’t it? Like, it’s not an elite Nintendo series – but it probably scrapes the top ten. It’s surprising, then, that more publishers haven’t attempted to ape the strategy series’ formula. Enter: Tinykin, a title coming to the PS5 and PS4 on 30th August, which has clearly been inspired by Captain Olimar and co.

This isn’t a complete knock-off, but the similarities are there. You’ll be gathering different coloured Tinykin, each with a unique purpose, and using them to solve environmental puzzles. The blue blobs, for example, can chain together electric currents – while the green ones can stack on top of each other in order to help you access out-of-reach areas.

The game will be successful if it’s able to compellingly combine all of these systems to make for some rewarding conundrums. Regardless, we really love the mixture of vibrant real-life environments and cel-shaded cartoon characters. It could be one to watch, this – we doubt it’ll be winning any awards, but as an alternative take on Pikmin, it looks like a good one.
