On Saturday, Dmitry Bivol from Russia successfully defended his World Boxing Association light heavyweight championship with a unanimous decision win at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, giving a surprise defeat to Canelo Álvarez.

After 12 rounds, all three judges scored the fight 115-113 in Bivol’s favor, as the Mexican suffered only his second loss of his career, nine years after losing to Floyd Mayweather in November 2013.

Bivol hushed the sell-out crowd to improve to 20 victories in 20 fights, while Alvarez, largely regarded as the finest pound-for-pound fighter before the battle, falls to 57-2-2.
