What Is NBA 2K23 Next-Gen, and will it be on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2022?
That’s the question fans are asking following the news of the annual release coming to multiple platforms.
And with so many different versions available to purchase and add-ons to consider, it’s worth knowing exactly what you’re getting when the final product hits shelves.
What Is NBA 2K23 Next-Gen?
Visual Concepts now releases two different versions of its annual basketball game release, following the launch of Sony and Microsoft’s latest consoles. NBA 2K23 next-gen will be the version of the game that has the best performance and visual fidelity, and usually includes a more complex world to explore. Last-Gen versions include PS4 and Xbox One, which are unable to run the most advanced version of the game due to hardware limitations.
And while we don’t know exactly what is being planned for NBA 2K23, we do know that the PC and Nintendo Switch versions of the game will not be next-gen. This makes sense for the handheld console, as it’s known to be less powerful than both the PS4 and Xbox One.
But some fans will be surprised to hear that NBA 2K23 on PC is not next-gen, and is in fact the same version that gamers play on PS4, Xbox One and Switch. Visual Concepts has provided confirmation that NBA 2K23 will not offer any kind of next-gen option on the PC platform, although this could change in the future.
The full statement from the NBA 2K23 team reads: “Are there any plans to bring the next generation of NBA 2K titles to PC and Nintendo Switch in the future?
“This is something the team is passionate about and will continue to investigate what is possible for the franchise in the future. For now, the focus was on assuring NBA 2K23 was optimized for the new consoles (PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S), while also making sure the experience remains fresh and innovative for players on other platforms.”
