Witcher 3 is getting a boxed retail release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S next week

CD Projekt has announced release dates for the boxed edition of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

The new-gen console versions of the game will hit store shelves in the United States, Europe and selected regions on January 26, before rolling out in other countries over the following weeks.

After several delays and a change of developer, Witcher 3’s next-gen update was released in December as a standalone purchase for PC, Xbox Series X/S and PS5, and as a free patch for players who owned the game on PC and last-gen consoles.

While it released with some technical issues, VGC’s The Witcher 3 review called the game the “definitive version of one of the best RPGs ever”.

On Thursday, CD Projekt Red global community director Marcin Momot said the studio has been working on a new update for the game that looks to be nearing completion and should be released fairly soon.

Last October, CD Projekt Red outlined its development slate for the foreseeable future, including a Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, a new trilogy of Witcher games, Witcher spin-offs, and the studio’s first original IP.

It later confirmed that its upcoming The Witcher remake will be an open-world game. The modern reimagining of 2007’s original series entry is being “rebuilt from the ground up” in Unreal Engine 5 and is in the early stages of development at Polish studio Fool’s Theory, where veteran Witcher staff are involved.
