World Table Tennis and NFT Technologies sign multi-year Web 3.0 partnership

World Table Tennis (WTT) has signed a multi-year partnership with blockchain firm NFT Technologies, in order to develop the International Table Tennis Federation’s (ITTF) Web 3.0 strategy.

The partnership will cover fan engagement, digital collectibles, metaverse experiences and interactive gaming.

WTT’s claims its events reach 519 million fans and NFT Technologies will look to engage those through developing and implementing a Web 3.0 strategy.

“Table tennis is exploding in terms of global popularity and participation and the WTT has been very forward-looking and progressive in leading sports technology innovation,” said Adam De Cata, chief executive at NFT Tech.

“We’re going to be able to build exciting multi-faceted experiences that further elevate fan and player engagement including play-to-earn, which in itself is a multiple-billion-dollar opportunity space.”

Michael Brown, WTT chief financial officer, added: “WTT has been researching and planning its entry into the Web 3.0 space for over 15 months now, studying and analysing ways in which we can create greater fan engagement through Web 3.0.

“The partnership with NFT Tech is the first major step on this journey. NFT Tech has proven to be a leader in the space when it comes to technology innovation in sport, which we believe is crucial when it comes to growing our sport.”
